In Memoriam:

Ricky Sharma

A Trailblazer for Adolescent Health & Women's Equality

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved friend and Harvard GlobalWE Board Member, Ricky Sharma.

  • Knowing Ricky and working with him was a delight, an inspiration, and an honor. Although our increasing interaction through Harvard GlobalWE over the past few years was entirely virtual, his joy, passion and brilliance were so palpable and so very much appreciated. A dramatic career change highlighted his dedication to the causes of gender equality and adolescent empowerment, a mission that was a partnership with his wife, and that was also shared with the GlobalWE community. Ricky’s light will shine on brightly through his remarkable legacy, as many honor his memory by following his example to be champions in this world for the work that remains to be done. Thank you, for the blessing of your friendship and your dream.

  • Ricky’s commitment to the health and well-being of adolescents, and his dedication to the empowerment of women and girls, were deeply held. He acted on these commitments, devoting his time and energy to the things he believed would make the world better. We were lucky to know him and to have him on our board, sharing our mission. May his treasured memory be a blessing always.

  • Ricky’s focus on gender equity and adolescent engagement was outstanding. His ability to align efficiencies with contextual understanding was also unique. And his commitment to bettering the lives of women and girls by empowering them through education is a mission that had incredible impact. In his professional endeavors, Ricky was inspirational. And to GlobalWE, he brought incredible energy and enthusiasm. It was a pleasure to know and work with Ricky. He will be deeply missed and we pray his soul rests in peace.

  • Ricky, through his words and deeds, embodied the values that GlobalWE and its members and friends hold dear. He brought his tremendous talent and creativity to our organization by actively engaging in our signature event, the Women's Empowerment Expo, both as a participant and as an organizer, and helped GlobalWE strengthen its connections between its members and friends and the organizations that participated in this event. His global focus on promoting health knowledge among adolescents and emphasis on addressing gender inequality had and will have a significant impact on countless lives. His life was a blessing, and his memory will live on in all of our hearts.

    Barbara Barreno-Paschall, AB β€˜07

  • Ricky was a true philanthropist who dedicated his life to the service of others, especially women and children. His passing is a huge loss to everyone whose lives he touched and he impacted many with his great work. Ricky’s light will shine bright in heaven, as his legacy of outstanding work will continue to shine here.

  • In less than a year of serving alongside Ricky on GlobalWE's board, I've personally witnessed his deep dedication to empowering women and girls. His unwavering energy and devotion leave an indelible mark on all who've had the privilege of working with him. Ricky's memory remains an inspiring blessing, given his remarkable contributions. As we mourn his loss, his absence is profoundly felt. May our fondest memories of Ricky continue to thrive in the lives he touched, a testament to his enduring legacy.

  • Ricky showed his values and commitment to improving gender inequality for adolescent girls through his dedicated journey. Ricky’s legacy of dedication to the health and education of girls and young women in India and globally will live on in many people’s hearts. We were grateful to meet and work with Ricky on our board. May his contribution to the world continue to thrive and be remembered.

  • I first had the pleasure of being introduced to Ricky and his impactful work with Adolescent Health Champions (then Girls Health Champions) at the first GlobalWE Expo in 2016. Ricky’s commitment and passion for advancing the rights of women globally through his daily actions, dedication to his and his wife’s organization, and though GlobalWE was always so deeply felt and he leaves behind an incredible legacy of impact. I am incredibly grateful to Ricky and hope to honor his memory by continuing his life’s work of women’s empowerment and by modeling his passionate, dedicated, and mission-driven approach to leave the world a better place. We are forever grateful to you, Ricky.

  • Our Connect team will fondly remember Ricky, who helped us facilitate group discussions, solved various logistics challenges during the Expo and offered all kinds of support to everybody. Ricky was always enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and he was passionate about the mission of fighting gender disparity. We will remember his kindness.
